Artistic experimentation laboratories in school context
Gymnasium is a casaBranca’s project that proposes the implementation of a regular program of artistic training and experimentation aimed at children and youth, throughout several schools in the city of Lagos.
It includes the performing of a set of workshops from various artistic “disciplines” oriented by artists, throughout the school year, taking place in those same schools.
Acknowledging the central role school plays in the communities, itself representing a community with an identity of its own, it is fundamental for us the idea of working in the center of this microcosmos, directly intervening in the academic space itself, occupying it, transforming it and disquieting it.
For this project we call for people from the most different areas, closer and accomplices, or whose work we admire, to come think, invent, and (de)construct ideas and concepts, creating labs of action and thought, of training and free and deconditioned experimentation and, simultaneously, protected.
By operating in a transversal way and by proposing interdisciplinary practices of experimental character and also practices with more technical features, the goal is to extent the horizon of the children experiences, by placing them in contact with different expressions and lexicon, and to promote their capacity to choose and think accordingly to their true subjectivity.
